Introduction - Why?
There are a few reasons you may want to disable 5G on your phone, the main one being that it is new and there are legitimate concerns about the potential health risks associated with the increased frequencies that are part of the technology. Regardless, whatever the reason may be, we thought we would share how to make changes to the Cellular Settings when you're using the DeGoogled LineageOS 20 on your Android Based Phone.
There are two methods and we will outline both of them in this help article.
Method 1 - The Basic Way
- Open the "Settings" applet
- Tap On "Network & Internet"
- Tap on "SIMs"
- Tap on "Preferred network type"
- Choose either "LTE/CDMA" or "LTE/GSM/UMTS"
- Tap off the popup
- Tap the back arrow in the upper left hand corner.
- Reboot phone (Optional)
Method 2 - The Detailed Way
- Open the Phone Dialer Application
- Dial: *#*#4632#*#*
- Tap "Phone Information"
- Tap "Set Preferred Network Type:"
- Choose any of option to fit your needs that does not have "NR" in the list of network options.
